1953-54
Histories of Britain's Football Clubs - 1st Series
D.C. Thomson / The Rover
36 cut-outs
Some numbers appear twice. It may indicate a mixture of two different similar series or the possibility that the series also ran in one of The Rover's sister publications, or that some weeks different teams were available in the Scottish and English versions of the comic. The West Ham one is unnumbered and until it is dated, appears at the bottom of the list.
UPDATE (26-04-2021 11:38): Trevor Cotterell has provided a number of new teams for the checklist and also added a few dates for others.
UPDATE (04-04-2023 10:57): Lang Banks has provided a list of additional teams for this collection.
UPDATE (17-09-2024 16:00): Richard Small has provided a long list of these collectable cut-outs and there are two series! I will update this list to reflect the first series and I will add a new post for the second series. Richard has also included issue dates for many of them.
Which team is number 4? The following clubs were in the top two divisions in 1952-53 but are not included in the checklists: Brentford, Bury, Derby County, Doncaster Rovers, Leeds United, Middlesbrough, Portsmouth. So I presume the team comes from one of these (my guess would be Portsmouth). It couldn't be a Scottish team as there are 36 Scottish clubs listed, even though there were only 34 teams in the top two divisions of the Scottish League. Brechin City and East Stirlingshire are the extra clubs.
