Chocolate E. Juncosa - Foot-Ball ~ Escenas Interesantes (1922)

1922
Foot-Ball ~ Escenas Interesantes
Chocolate E. Juncosa
Spain
42 cards

I don't suppose many supporters of Durham City or Crook Town read this blog but if they did they'd be surprised to see their clubs feature twice in this collection. The cards shown are nos. 6 and 14 (Europa v Durham City) and cards 34 and 41 (Crook Town v Barcelona). Durham City played five games in Spain in May 1922, managing one draw in three games against CE Europa of Barcelona and winning one and losing one against a Madrid XI. Crook Town made three trips to Barcelona (1913, 1921 and 1922) and played Barcelona on ten occassions. During the three games in 1922 they won one (3-1), drew one and lost one (1-8).

This is another set of cards from Spain where the bottom section of the back of the card is originally blank so that outlets can customize the cards with their own rubber handstamps or have their own details printed at the bottom. I've found a large number of variations and there are probably many more. If you can provide images of other backs not shown here or know of other issuers, please get in touch.
UPDATE (06-12-2017 08:48):  Gregory Graetz has been in touch to let me know that card 34 features goalkeeper Ricardo Zamora, he's also provided a photo of the Chocolates Torras version on the card back.
UPDATE (08-04-2020 12:35):  Another 9 different issuers added.

Gregory Graetz sent me photos of three boxers from this collection, which reminded me that I haven't featured these before. I have so much information to include on this blog that sometimes I get side-tracked and end up not including sets that I had intended to include. This set is one of those. Only 24 of the larger 'stamps' were issued and are listed here. I only have information on two of the eight sheets, the others are listed alphabetically. I never did manage to track down a complete sheet featuring Cardiff City's Len Davies, nor Stan Davies and Hugh Ferguson, two other players with Cardiff City connections. The sheets are unnumbered and are numbered here for reference purposes only. You'll find the previous articles here:

UPDATE (12-12-2017 18:51):  I originally had George Robey, a music-hall artiste, in this checklist because previous works of reference have included him in the list of subjects. Gregory Graetz has pointed out that my list originally missed McCormick (Light Heavy Champion). I presume I stopped adding names to the checklist once I had found 24 names, not realizing that George Robey doesn't appear. McCormick has now been added.
