W.D. & H.O. Wills - International Footballers - Anonymous

1909-10
International Footballers
W.D. & H.O. Wills / Anonymous
60 cards

The next Tim Davidson Auctions Ltd. auction on 11 January, 2023 includes one lot (Lot 31) which has a collection (set?) of 60 cards. On first glance these look like cards from the W.D. & H.O. Wills set of International Footballers but with blank backs. But on closer examination there is one major difference, instead of the cards featuring the national team of each of the players, the cards display the name of the club each of them played for.
I have listed the 60 cards in the same order as the  W.D. & H.O. Wills checklist - W.D. & H.O. Wills - International Footballers 1909-10 (Flag, Scissors, United Service), but there are 67 cards in that collection so I have listed those other 7 cards separately.
The middle card is W.C. Davies (West Bromwich Albion), included here, despite the poor quality of the images, because it's the only card missing from the illustrated checklist of the Welsh internationals - W.D. & H.O. Wills - International Footballers 1909-10 (Flag, Scissors, United Service) (02) - Wales.
All the clubs come from the Football League, Southern League, Irish League or Scottish League, except for the Welsh clubs. Wrexham played in the Birmingham & District League while Llandrindod Wells played in the Mid-Wales Football League.
N.B. W.D. & H.O. Wills set of International Footballers is usually referred to as a 1909-10 set. David James English McConnell (E. McConnell) made his debut for Chelsea in April 1910. This clubs are listed as Cliftonville, Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday and Chelsea on the back of his card, which probably means the set was produced later in 1910. His club in this Anonymous collection is listed at Sheffield Wednesday which seems to indicate that these cards were issued earlier than the W.D. & H.O. Wills ones.
