Kiddy's Favourites
52 cards
I am always happy to include research carried out by other collectors. Bob Peden has some thought on the Kiddy's Favourites set of Popular Footballers. The checklist can be found here - Kiddy's Favourites / Yanky Bubble Gum - (KID-140-1/KHM-5) Popular Footballers.
Kiddy's Favourites - Popular Footballers: Probable Dates
by Bob Peden
Rough dates of issue can be deduced using
- comments in the text.
- dates when players signed for, or first played for, different clubs.
Listed in the Cartophilic Society Trade Index as 1948, by Football Card Collector Magazine as 1950, by other dealers as 1947-48.
Key cards in this series are:
Refer to 1947 events as previous season:
7. Macaulay
15. Steel
16. Shaw
17. Govan
28. Hardwick
Refers to 1948 event as current season for 1948:
2. Delaney
Dates of signing:
8. Oakes (Manchester City) signed for them June, 1948
40. Martin (Leeds United) signed for Aston Villa from Leeds in October, 1948.
So the texts for this series would have been written not before June, 1948 and not later than October, 1948
Kiddy's Favourites - Popular Footballers - Mini - K size (KID-060)
Listed in the Cartophilic Society Trade Index as 1951, no date in the Football Card Collector Magazine listing
Key cards in this series are:
Dates of signing:
9. Delaney (Falkirk) signed for them December, 1951
47. Lowrie (Coventry City) first game of this second spell with them was 16 February, 1952
This would suggest issue date for series as no earlier than March 1952.
Kiddys Popular Footballers : Aherne Errors
B. Aherne [note typo in listing of mini – K series] was in fact Tom Aherne, nicknamed Bud. But on the original series his name is given on the back as Brian.
Aherne played for Belfast Celtic until he signed for Luton Town in March, 1949, where he played until 1957.
Can anyone confirm the name and club on the back of the mini – K card?

The miniature card No.23 states BRIAN AHERNE
