Football cards and stickers issued around the world, from the 1880's to the present day and even some that haven't been issued yet. I don't have any cards for sale, nor do I provide valuations, this blog is just a means of passing on information I have gathered over many decades of collecting. Alan Jenkins.

Kiddy's Favourites (Anonymous)
52 cards
Middlesbrough collectors look away now.
Carl at www.rarecards.co.uk has sent me some scans of some very rare and unusual cards...
I have some very unusual images of those anonymous (Kiddy's Favourites) red stars 1946/7 Football Stars cards for you... but these are unlike any I have seen before now.
There are two sorts: 1 card with straight edges, widely cut; 3 cards with crinkly edges, die-cut types.
As we know, Kiddy's Favourites cards do sometimes come die-cut but I have never seen this type before now. One of these is an unrecorded player, Linwood as a Middlesbrough player, rather than Hibs, as he is more commonly seen. (He was at Middlesbrough for the 1946-47 season, moving to Hibernian for the 1947-48 season - Alan). I do believe this is the first instance of these cards being recorded. All these cards have different letterpress settings, sizes and placement of text to the other red stars Football Stars I have.
The cards are gems from the collection of the late John Allen. There is a note in his archive saying, "never sell these, Don Mayne says they are proofs, unique".
The original checklist can be found here - Kiddy's Favourites (Anonymous) - (KID-040aa/ab/ba/bb / ZB9-25A/B) Football Stars.

Kiddy's Favourites
50 cards
Another checklist from Harry Richards, courtesy of Robert Muat. The cards vary in size and measure 63-67 x 38mm. Harry has a paper wrapper that promises a pair of boxing gloves if you send in a full set of 52 cards. Cards 51 and 52 may not have been issued, but he also has cards 1-50 with a red stamp on the back shown that they had been redeemed. Perhaps they actually gave boxing gloves for incomplete sets of 50 cards, or someone was lucky enough to find all 52 cards.

Kiddy's Favourites issued a number of football card sets, but also covered some other sports, this set highlights some of the top Speedway riders in the country in the years following World War Two. The checklist has been supplied by Harry Richards. Card no. 23 was the 'key' card, which was produced in low numbers and difficult to get.

Sports Favourites ~ Rogue series
A. & J. Donaldson / Kiddy's Favourites ? (Anonymous)
52 cards
Robert Muat has been in touch with some more information about this set. I'll let him explain:
I believe that these cards were issued by Kiddy's Favourites. They are traced-over copies and renumbered A. & J. Donaldson cards.
This set finished with card number 52. The 'Football Stars' set starts at number 53 (with 52 cards). All the other "Popular" series issued by Kiddy's Favourites have 52 cards in the set.
Some of the 'Rogue' card backs have parts of "Merry Christamstide and a Happy New Year etc." printed on them, as do some of the 'Football Stars' backs.
As with the first Donaldson issues; the 'Rogue' cards and the 'Football Stars' were printed as cheaply as possible on clean-up sheets of board.
The cards have the players' surname on the front, except for the Joe Mercer card.

52 cards
At least one card is known with the word 'CANCELLED' stamped
on the back. It's possible all the cards could be found in this condition. I
thought it might be from some sort of redemption programme. The cards can also
be found without any reference to the Series or the player on the back, but
with the wording 'Buy "Yanky" Bubble Gum IT'S BEST' and these rare
cards can be found printed on three different coloured cards. Players names are taken from the front of the cards and the team name is as written on the back of the cards.
UPDATE (28-02-2026 14:02): Three more cards with 'CANCELLED' stamped on the back have been seen.
