Football cards and stickers issued around the world, from the 1880's to the present day and even some that haven't been issued yet. I don't have any cards for sale, nor do I provide valuations, this blog is just a means of passing on information I have gathered over many decades of collecting. Alan Jenkins.

421 stickers
Panini's first album was published in 1961-62. A few years ago La Gazzetta dello Sport reprinted some Calciatori albums. They produced this one which was called Calciatori 1960-61, though it actually featured the Nannina album Gol 1960-1961 (you can find the checklist here - Nannina - Gol 1960-1961). Nannina produced albums before this one and continued making football sticker albums into the late 1960s. I don't know why Panini decided to add this one to it's roster.

Hello Alan, it is well documented that the Panini brothers started their business by repacking the stickers from the Nannina's Gol collection. Here is an extract from the "Made in Italy" site (https://madeinitaly-community.com/en/blog/art-and-culture/panini-stickers-a-60-year-passion): "In 1960, Benito and Giuseppe, who worked in the family newsagents in Modena, came up with the idea of selling an old batch of footballers’ cards from Nannina Editore in a packet for 10 lire. The packets sold out immediately and, in January 1961, Giuseppe founded Panini Editrice and printed the first album for collecting the cards." Therefore, while technically not something they published, this collection was distributed by them as re-sellers.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the information and the link. Fascinating.
