1960
(CAD-595/CAF-10-1) Footballers
Cadet Sweets
50 cards
As mentioned previously, Roger Long is responsible for identifying a third set of these particular cards and the fourth set of Footballers cards issued by Cadet Sweets. He has been very kind in scanning all the cards from the three similar sets that were issued in 1958, 1959 and 1960. With his help I have been able to put together this illustrated checklist. As the fronts of the cards are the same across all three sets I've added the different backs for each of the cards in the order they were issued and as they are listed below.
I have included a list of variations to the previous checklists but these are now seem redundant, but I have added a combined checklist showing the different captions.
UPDATE (11-05-2017 18:14): Roger Long has just informed me that the first two versions of card number 1 spell Bobby Robson's first name as 'Bobbie' but the third version has the correct spelling.
UPDATE (13-05-2017 13:14): Roger Long has found a few more anomalies with the players' names.
UPDATE (24-03-2018): Roger Long today received scans of a complete 1960 set, bought off eBay, from a guy called Dave. Further investigation revealed that this set had been obtained from an eBay seller who had purchased (approx.) 10 sets. Roger purchased a further two sets to add to his collection. There are now at least eleven of these 1960 sets in circulation, all discovered by the same eBayer.

No.16 should read Joe Shaw, not George
ReplyDeleteTrevor
Thank you, he never played for England either, but he was 12th man on at least one occasion, though I can't find out which game that was.
DeleteAlan
This is not Joe Shaw, it is his brother, Graham. Who played left back for the Blades and also played for England five times. The photo is also clearly Graham. All the best, Paul
DeleteThank you Paul.
DeleteStill an error card, just a different error! I still need to find the 1960 card
DeleteWhich set is the most common in circulation? 58 59 or 60?
ReplyDelete1958 and 1959 are more common than 1960.
DeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteI am interested in the 1960 set. I thought it was basically the same writing on the back but realized that it in some cases it’s completely different. Thanks for the amazing scans. Any update on how many of these sets are floating around? Or how difficult they are to track down?
