Upper Deck - 1994 World Cup ~ Swiss Edition (McDonalds) (02)

1994
1994 World Cup ~ Swiss Edition
Upper Deck / McDonalds
Switzerland
56 cards

Andreas Henning has very kindly e-mailed most of the checklist for this collection, and two versions of two of the cards...
You recently asked for support to provide more info for the McDonalds Upper Deck set of World Cup 1994 cards.
I’m glad I can provide checklist and pictures.
I don’t have #12 nor the last 4 cards of the set, but I am pretty much sure #53 - #56 are German players' Hologram cards.
All cards are the same as in the regular 1994 (Contender) set – the only difference is with the hologram logo. It is showing the McDonalds logo instead of the Upper Deck logo.
Cards were only available in Switzerland at McDonalds with 3 cards per pack. Bi-lingual text in French and German. An album should exist, but I’ve never came across one.
Andreas has been collecting cards and stickers for many years and has a very interesting website - Trading Cards & Stickers.
UPDATE (05-12-2017 17:25):  Thanks to Harry for providing the names of the players featured on the hologram cards and some of the photos. This checklist is finally complete!
UPDATE (04-03-2023 14:17):  I've just learned that there are two different versions of the McDonalds cards - French/German and Italian/German and would you believe I've already got examples of both illustrated with this checklist. The Marco van Basten card is the Italian/German version and the Andoni Zubizaretta card is French/German.
UPDATE (06-03-2023 15:39):  herbie22222 has provided scans of both versions of card number 7 (Jorginho). The French/Dutch card is on the left and the Italian/German card on the right. The strange thing is the word 'career' is in French and German on the card on the left but the biography is in Dutch. I don't have a problem with French/German/Italian languages as all three are official languages of Switzerland. I've no idea where the Dutch part comes from. Really strange. You can see some of the cards available for sale here - Swiss+McDoanlds+Edition

  1. Hi! If still needed I can try to check who the missing players are. I should have a bunch of those and the album somewhere.

    1. Hi,

That would be great, thank you. It's just about the hardest Upper Deck World Cup 94 collection to try and compile a checklist for.

      Cheers,

      Alan

    3. Hi Alan! I'm happy to inform you that this mystery has been solved! I found the collector's album and I had also the missing card number 12 (Faustino Asprilla, Columbia) and three of the holograms. In addition the albums inside cover has a full list of all the cards and players. I'll send you an email with some pictures I took and the whole list of all the players. BR, Harry

  3. Regarding the 4 hologram cards from this set, are they exactly the same as the holograms that came with the other sets?
I bought a complete set of the McDonalds cards French/German edition and the 4 holograms were all sticky and in risk of damaging the other cards so I had to bin them.

  4. Apparently there are two different language variations for this set, one in French/German and the other Italian/German.

    1. Wow!, never knew that. It looks like I am going to have to try and find examples of both types, but these cards are so rare.

      Cheers,
      Alan

    2. Just found a guy selling both versions on eBay but he uses the same photo for both types. I've written to him hoping he can help out.

Yes, these are super rare. There is a guy on instagram who opened 27 packets of these McDonalds cards, I believe the cards he pulled were Italian/German. Here is a link to a video of him opening the packets:
