ReplyDeleteI'm in dispute with PSA, I believe these cards are for season 1976-77, they say that because of the copyright 1977 the are 1977-78. On an e-mail they give the link http://cards.littleoak.com.au/index_topps.html, which you have also provided on another page. Do you have any other info about topps and release dates?
ReplyDeleteWith all Topps cards from the 1970's I have always gone by the information on the backs of most of the cards where they give season by season appearances and goals. I believe the season without any totals is the season when the cards were issued. I didn't start collecting these cards until a few seasons after they were issued but that is the how I dated them for my collection. If these were issued in 1977-78 I presume they'd have appearances and goals totals for 1976-77.
DeleteHi again, Alan.. As with the blue/grays.. The red backs are from 77/78 season. You can see from the back of the Tosh card that the footnote is warning about the 76/77 season (previous season) is not included.. That statement wouldn't make sense if the 76/77 season had not been played yet. The Copyright is also from 77, which indicated that they are printed in 1977. That would be before the season started, indicating that this is the 77/78 season. If this was the 76/77 season, the copyright, and thus the printing, would be done after new year, which is mid season. That can not be, as the cards were in the shops before season started.
DeleteI remember, as I used all my pocket money on these packs :-D
Hi Bjørn,
DeleteI've been collecting football cards for over 60 years and I've always had these Topps cards listed like this. I have always beleived that they were produced in the season that's listed on the card backs without any stats against them.
And Topps is still doing it. We are already a couple months into the 2024/25 season and Topps is still releasing collections for the 2023/24 season.
Cheers,
Alan
