Football cards and stickers issued around the world, from the 1880's to the present day and even some that haven't been issued yet. I don't have any cards for sale, nor do I provide valuations, this blog is just a means of passing on information I have gathered over many decades of collecting. Alan Jenkins.

2 x 6 postcards
Following on from previous years postcards were available by sending in tokens printed on the packets, but this year there were just two set of six. Because the Cartophilic Society of Great Britain recorded all the postcard sets from the different seasons in one section these are numbered differently, but to keep this post in some sort of order in the Index I've keep the number of the set (TRCB-2) in the header with the correct catalogue numbers (and titles) listed below.
(BAR-142-1) World Beaters - Star 'Six' Postcards
1. Roberto Baggio (Italy)
2. Eric Cantona (France)
3. Ryan Giggs (Wales)
4. John Harkes (USA)

50 cards
Mark Hughesdon has sent in some scans of cards from this series. Mark discovered an error as the first card shown (no. 32) is described as Newcastle v Wolves, but Mark easily identified his second home, Luton Town's Kenilworth Road. The action is from the February 1975 fixture Luton Town v Newcastle United.
There are two different sets of 50 Football Action cards and it's easy to tell the difference between them. This set, issued in 1976-77, has no gap between the title of the card and the body of text whereas the set issued the following season has a recognisable gap between the title and the descriptive text. For some of the cards I've been able to add the names of players featured in the action photo.
1. Bolton Wanderers v Sunderland - Tony Dunne (Bolton Wanderers) , Billy Hughes (Sunderland)
2. Spurs v Wolves
3. Stoke City v Man City
4. Birmingham v Burnley - Trevor Francis (Birmingham City)
5. Q.P.R. v Stoke City - Gerry Francis (Queens Park Rangers), John Mahoney (Stoke City)
6. West Ham v Stoke
7. Man City v Man United - Stuart Pearson (Manchester United)
8. Coventry City v Middlesbrough - Terry Cooper (Middlesbrough)
9. Norwich v Aston Villa
10. Q.P.R. v Stoke City - Don Givens (Queens Park Rangers), Mick Leach (Queens Park Rangers), Geoff Salmons (Stoke City)
11. Leicester City v Wolves - Chris Garland (Leicester City)
12. Derby v West Ham Utd - Colin Todd (Derby County), Billy Jennings (West Ham United)
13. Ipswich Town v West Ham Utd
14. Aston Villa v Leeds Utd - Ray Graydon (Aston Villa)
15. Leicester City v Derby - Jeff Blockley (Leicester City) , Roger Davies (Derby County)
16. Q.P.R. v Derby County

(TRCB-1-2) Football 1991-92
Bassett & Co.
48 cards
John Levitt has sent in scans of these two leaflets. It's possible they were created for different collections, but because the cards they show are from 1991-92 I thought I'd include them both here...
I don't know if you have ever seen Bassett Football Candy Sticks binder offer leaflets. One was still in the envelope that the Postcards were sent in. The envelope was franked with a date of 13th September 1993 and contained a flimsy paper binder offer. It measures 148mm x 105mm. You needed to send in £3.50p including postage to get your binder which would hold all 36 postcards and 48 picture cards. The offer closed 31st December 1994.
The other leaflet is on thicker paper with the same measurements. This time the amount to be sent in has increased to £3.75p and has a closing date of 31st December 1996.

When these postcards were recorded in the Cartophilic Society Trade reference books two seasons' cards were combined into one alphabetical list which me gives rise to the strange catalogue numbers allocated to each six card set. Barratt/Geo. Bassett
48 cards (1 football)
Two different versions of this set, one with black backs (issued in 1989) and the other with blue backs (issued the following year). I always like finding football cards in non-football sets and spotted this Dennis the Menace card whilst perusing Mark Edwards' superb Flickr site. I don't have this card, so I've included examples of the two different coloured backs by using other cards from the collection.
UPDATE (10-02-2026 21:12): I've had an e-mail from John Levitt:
I have both sets and I can confirm that both sets are different. The football card only appears in the Blue Back set and is card 41. I have enclosed a scan of both sides. There are 4 different coloured packets for each set with each colour featuring a different character, Desperate Dan, Roger the Dodger, Minnie the Minx and Dennis the Menace.
I have updated the post accordingly.
