D.C. Thomson / The Rover - THO-310/ZB7-3A Cricketers & Footballers

1922
THO-310/ZB7-3A Cricketers & Footballers
D.C. Thompson / The Rover
145 cards (137 footballers)

issue 1-8: 2 English players, 2 Scottish players

issue 9-19: same 2 players issued in England and Scotland
issue 20-27: 1 cricketer and 1 footballer in England; same footballer and another Scottish footballer in Scotland
issue 28-37: pair of footballers in England, pair of footballers in Scotland, one player was the same in England and Scotland
issue 38-47: pair of footballers in England, a different pair of footballers in Scotland.

147 cards listed, two cards were included twice. That makes 145 different cards, 137 of them footballers with the others being cricketers. Listed in the order they were issued and also alphabetical by surname.
As far as I know there is only one variation, shown above, where the surname is spelt with one 't' or two 't's.

Philip Neill - Burnley Stars

Burnley Stars
Philip Neill

Following on from Mike McIntyre supplying information and scans of the Goalden Goal lottery tickets issued by Burnley, I asked him about this set, which I have very little information on. Philip Neill has issued 4 other Burnley sets which I already have checklists for.

With regard to the “Burnley Stars” set, I have some cards which I am fairly sure are from 2010. There are 7 past stars and 14 (then) present stars, although there are 2 different cards of some of the stars. I think this is the whole set but am not 100% sure because of the odd numbers in the set.

Our Pin-Up (drawn by Mickey Durling)
Sunday Empire News
Unknown number

Drawn by Mickey Durling, these caricatures run into the hundreds, many of them appear in the Sunday Evening News. This newspaper issued a set of cards of Durling's drawings called Famous Footballers of Today. Durling's work was also featured in Charles Buchan's Football Monthly in the early 1950s. A large collection of the drawings were reprinted as cards in the late 1980's, printed in blue.
