Villa News & Record
(Aston Villa F.C. programme)
1-44, 1-281 + 12 unnumbered
These programme inserts were given away with Aston Villa's programme for 9 seasons prior to The Great War. They were usually loose inserts but very occasionally they were stapled inside the programme. The first column is the date of the programme. Some sheets were inserted into more than one programme, especially if two games followed in quick succession. For example No. 2 was issued on 08 September 1906 and for the game two days later, on the 10th.
UPDATE (14-10-2017 13:30): I should have added an update here a few years ago. I originally presumed that an insert was not included with the issue for 27 April, 1907 against Bolton Wanderers. My extensive research of this collection revealed that the insert was not included with the copy of Villa News & Record held by Aston Villa themselves. I already knew that it was not in the copy held at the Newspaper Library that used to be situated in Colindale, North London. I also contacted Birmingham Library without success. Jon Farrelly eventually confirmed that there was an insert with this programme, showing match action against Liverpool, presumably from the game at Villa Park on 30 March, 1907.

**** Not in Aston Villa F.C. copy; not in Newspaper Library, Colindale copy; not in Birmingham Library copy. No reference to it in the programme.
Do you have picture of

No, sorry. I did this reach a long time ago at the British Newspaper Library that used to be located at Colindale in London, where they had bound copies of the Aston Villa programme for these seasons. It was expensive to get copies and I only ordered the few shown here.

Hi,
DeleteI'm sorry I can't help you. These are not for sale, they're included for information purposes only.
Alan
Alan,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reply, I am just trying to find information and photos of my grandfather. If I contact the Newspaper library/archive is that a good place to start for these ? I tried Aston Villa and have had no reply back yet.
Gary
Hi Gary,
DeleteThe Newspaper Library has volumes of the Villa News and Record programmes and they might be able to help. The Newspaper Library moved from Colindale in London up to Leeds some years ago.
Good luck,
Alan
