Topps - Match Attax SPFL 2022/23 (09) - Checklist

2022-23
Match Attax SPFL 2022/23
Topps
Scotland
327+ cards

Topps has been previewing this collection for a couple of weeks and announced that the collection will be available in shops in Scotland and on the Topps website on 5 January, 2023. I don't live in Scotland but my local WH Smith usually stocks the SPFL Match Attax starter packs but they did't have them this morning. It is now gone midday and there's still nothing on the Topps website. I've no idea if the collection has or will be released today but I thought I'd take the time to start to compile the checklist from the information already provided. I will be updating this post with new information as and when it becomes available until the checklist is complete.
Look out for Surprise Packs (1:48 packets), where all 10 cards are replaced with rare Midnight Black parallel cards. There are also a Top Secret Packs (1:72 packets), with 4 Thunder & Lightning cards, all 4 100 Club cards and both the Golden Legends cards. Finally, there are the Mystery Packs, these are exclusive to the Multipacks and include 2 Flaming Red parallel cards.
UPDATE (07-01-2023 00:30):  The checklist is now COMPLETE.
UPDATE (07-01-2023 16:15):  Updated checklist with information on parallels and created headings to identify Base cards and Inserts.

    1. That's late, I only checked about half an hour ago. They must be working overtime at the Topps office.

      Thanks for letting me know.

  2. No players or teams from the championship this year?

    1. Not sure. There's a lot of missing numbers after the the last base St Mirren (216) until we get to the first Future Legend card at number 253.

Unable to make out the individual players, but 217-251 are listed as Cinch Championship Stars.

      Top Secret Packs are 1:72 Pks (4 Thunder & Lightning Cards + 4 100 Clubs + 2 Golden Legends)

    6. Does no one else think it's weird how they chose the championship stars?

Like the championship player of the year last year in Michael McKenna is not chosen for Arbroath, neither is Ricky Little but players who rarely play for them like Scott Allan or Keaghan Jacobs are?

Same with Queens Park, they don't chose their best player in Simon Murray?

They don't chose Dipo Akinyemi who's had a great season for Ayr?

Feel like no real thought goes into these selections, the championship always gets shafted. Was much better when the championship teams each got 8 players and the logo card. Would much prefer that over 40 different random shiny cards for the same players you get in the base set

    7. Agree with Anon comment 7th Jan.

The Championship cards were only really introduced cos sevco were in the lower leagues on the start of their 'journey'. Now they are back in the top flight there appears to be no thought whatsoever going into which players to include.
Also, why 35 cards, and why 5 players from 6 clubs and just 5 players in total for the remaining 4 clubs? (At least have 40 players, 4 from each club).
The lack of thought was a similar with the SPFL chrome set last year.
Far too many 'old firm' cards, and even worse when it came to the chase cards. Not a single League Legend card for any club other than Celtic, sevco, Hibs, Hearts, Aberdeen and Motherwell. Similar rushed selection for the Autographed cards.

    8. Not just the Championship that is random. For St Mirren they have Toyosi Olusanya who has hardly featured this season due to injury yet arguably the highest profile player Keanu Baccus is missing! Good enough to go head to head with Messi but not for Topps!!!!

  4. How may red black and gold parallels ate their to collect

  5. According to the packaging, it's the first 252 cards. So that's all the base cards and the Championship Stars. But it must be the first 251 cards as card 252 is the first of the Future Legend cards. Nothing is ever straight-forward with Topps.

    1. According to a Topps UK Twitter post, Future Legend cards are classed as base cards, but not the 12 Foil Club Badges. (164 - 12 = 152 cards)

"Future legends are base cards too. Club badges are foil which don’t count so it is 252"

      Delete
    2. Thank you, that clears it up. I should have realised the Club Badge cards wouldn't have parallels.

    3. I think it is more than the players, I have just seen a red border Future Legend, so I would assume there is also a black border Future Legend

      Delete
    4. Thank you for getting in touch. I've just found a black one too. I'll update the checklist.
      Cheers.

  6. Got a pack of black parallel ones, so does every play have a black parallel and the only difference is the border colour?

    1. I believe that is the case, each of the 252 base cards (excluding Club badges) have black parallels. Congratulations on finding the Special pack.

    2. Are the red and black cards limited in number or in the same numbers as the regular base cards?

      Delete
    3. They are rarer but Topps hasn't said how many of each version has been printed.
