1948-1954?
City Bakeries
Football Clubs (Paper Shields)

Carl at www.rarecards.co.uk has kindly sent in scans of four more City Bakeries cards, and cards that show actual players are much harder to find that most of the City Bakeries cards. As you can see from the first two, they show the same player. Carl thinks that this might mean that the cards were available for a much longer period that most collectors thought, possibly from around 1948 all the way through to 1956 and possibly later.
John (Jock) Cuthbertson joined Hibs in 1939 and moved to Third Lanark in 1949 before transfering to Stenhousemuir in 1953 where he stayed until 1956. James Mason spent his whole career at Third Lanark, from 1936 to 1952, though he guested for Charlton Athletic, Portsmouth and Brentford during the war. George Young was also a one-club man, joining Rangers in 1941 and staying at the club until 1957.
The George Young card introduces yet another typeface to this collection. In fact all four cards have different typefaces and may indicate different series of cards issued throughout the lifetime of the collection.
Hibs (Cuthbertson)
Stenhousemuir (Cuthbertson)
Third Lanark (Jimmy Mason)
Rangers (George Young)
