Football Champions / Subbuteo Trading Card Game
Wizards of the Coast / Subbutteo
105 cards

For the 2002-03 season the Football Champions game transformed into the Subbuteo Trading Card Game. The tactic cards are listed twice, with the title and with the teams  that feature on the cards. Wizards of the Coast issued similar series in France, Germany and Italy, with the Italian version being produced for four seasons. Checklists for all of these will appear here shortly.

This is the first version of Soccer Market. The four teams here were the four champions of the Football League in 1947-48. Apparently Peter Adolph who invented Subbuteo was a Queens Park Rangers fan.

P.A. Adolph (Subbutteo) - Soccer Market - 2nd Series

1952?
Soccer Market
P.A. Adolph (Subbutteo)
44 cards

I managed to pick up the Cardiff City cards from this game many moons ago. The whole package is highly collectable, especially among Subbuteo collectors. I used to think this was the only version, but the game was available from the 1947-48 season, throughout the 1950's, right up until 1964-65. I'll include details of another version later. A complete version of this collection is currently on sale on the Subbuteo World website for £349.
I'll include details of the first version later.

P.A. Adolph (Subbutteo) - ADO-040-1 / Famous Footballers ~ A Series of 50

1954
ADO-040-1 / Famous Footballers ~ A Series of 50
P.A. Adolph (Subbutteo)
50 cards

This is the ultra rare set, which combines the two sets of 24 cards and adds two more to bring the set up to 50 cards. I presume that this set was issued first, before a decision was made to cut the collection down to two smaller sets. The other sets are similar to other cards issued in the 1950s, whereas this set is contains photographic cards, more akin to some of those issued in the 1920s and the cards are slightly larger and shown a little more of the original picture on each card. I'd like to thank both Garry Daynes at Football Card Collector Magazine and  Neil Goulding for their help with this checklist. Card no. 21 (Sydeny Normanton of Bury) and card no. 50 (Ron Wylie of Notts County - shown above) are the two additional cards that turn two sets of 24 cards into one set of 50.
