F is for Football by Peter Blake
J. Baines
1 print
This silkscreen print is from Peter Blake's 1991 Alphabet Series, which is inspired by people and objects who have made their mark on British popular leisure culture.
Widely considered to be one of his finest series' of work, the collection epitomises Blake's signature style, namely the use of "found' imagery sourced from magazines, postcards and other popular ephemera.
In F for Football, Blake explores his interest in sport as a cultural force. The collage is crafted from his collection of cigarette cards, surrounded by badges depicting different football and rugby teams.
From a limited edition of 95, the print is signed by the artist. The size is 78cm x 102cm. The print is valued at around £2,000.
The inner section shows the League Colours by Godfrey Phillips Ltd. while there are various cards issued by John Baines around the border.
