Football Cards
J. Baines
20,000+ cards
J. Baines was not the first to sell football and cricket cards in the North of England in the late 1880's but he was the most prolific and the business survived into the 1920's. I've always been interested in the various issuers and the businesses that took advantage of craze of collecting football and cricket cards. I thought I would delve into my database and shows some of these interesting cards from a bygone age.
W.N. Sharpe was a contemporary of John Baines who produced a large number of 'Play Up' Football Cards in a variety of shapes.

ReplyDeleteI have sent you an email concerning a report of an unrecorded card that appears in the March issue of the LCCC's magazine.
regards
John
Hi John,
DeleteThanks for letting me know about the e-mail. Thanks also for the scan. If that card is in March's LCCC auction it's likely they'll include a colour photo when it goes live on their website. I'll try and remember to look out for it. I wonder if it advertizes the same hotel on the reverse?
Cheers,
Alan
