FIFA World Cup Brasil 2014 Prizm
Panini
200 cards (Base set)
The winning bid for this card was $435,000, with buyer's premium that goes up to $522,000. The auction ended yesterday and there were a total of 9 bids. The Goldin Auctions description reads:
Simply put, the number one Lionel Messi card in the world! This highly-sought modern card of arguably the greatest soccer player of all-time is graded in GEM MT PSA 10. The presented Gold Messi is a Pop 2 and is encapsulated in a brand-new PSA holder. The glistening gold radiating from this stunning, pack-fresh card should give you goosebumps.
The 2014 Panini Prizm World Cup set was the first ever major release of a soccer product in the United States. This first Prizm set includes a depiction of Messi in his national Argentina kit. It is not hyperbole to write that this limited-edition piece rarely becomes available on the market. This gem is serial-numbered "02/10" on the back.
I believe this is the third-highest price paid for a football card after the 1958 Pelé Alifabolaget card ($1,330,000) and the 2019/20 Topps Chrome Bundesliga Erling Haaland card, that sold for $442,800.00 last summer.
