Unela (Israel) - 1958 World Cup

55 wrappers

Bob Lapides has carried out some amazing research relating to these gum wrappers issued around the time of the 1958 World Cup. Carl Wilkes has discovered that Unela stands for the United States Near Eastern Laboratory (page 272, An A to Z of Football Collectibles), which was based in Kiryat Arie (Kiryat Aryeh), an industrial zone in the city of Petah Tikva, which is part of the Tel Aviv Metropolitan Area. This list features 55 players, 11 from each of the five teams, but two of the Yugoslav wrappers have the same names but show different players. I think I've been able to identify the mistaken as Toza Veselinovic, who later played for Sampdoria.
UPDATE (01-03-2022 13:33):  I've been sent scans of the two different Milutinovic wrappers. I think the one on the left is Milutinovic and the one on the right is Veselinovic. Can anyone confirm this? It would be great to get scans of all the wrappers so if anyone can provide scans of any of the missing wrappers please get in touch. Bob Lapides also provided scans of the missing wrappers but they had been cut down to strips featuring the face and flag and some also have an additional panel with the players' name, but it would be nice to show the complete wrappers.
