This collection covers games that took place from 21 May, 1951 through to the Final on 25 June, 1950. One interesting point in the lead-up to the competition - East German sides were originally scheduled to appear. One of them, SG Oberschöneweide were based in the Soviet-controlled East Berlin and travelled to play Hamburger SV even though they couldn't get travel permits from the Soviet authorities. The players moved to West Berlin on their return and founded a new team (Union 06 Berlin). SG Oberschöneweide continued in East Berlin and eventually became 1.FC Union Berlin.
