I've been looking for cigarette cards showing ancient forms of football. I haven't had any luck but I did find this image of a postcard showing Shinto Priests playing an early Japanese form of football called Kemari. It has been played in Japan since 644 AD and is similar to the even earlier game of Js'u Chu (Cuju) which has been played in China since 200 BC. Former United States President, George W. Bush played the game at the old Imperial Palace in Kyoto while on a state visit to Japan in 1992.

  1. That would make for a great away kit. Better than England's current effort.
