Cadet Sweets
48 transfers
Lee West sent in a scan that reminded me that I had forgotten to include this checklist when I last updated the 'All Sports' set of transfers issued by Cadet Sweets. The Alan A'Court transfer comes from the Premier Football Cards.com website, clicking on the link will take you directly to it, it's a much better than my poor Alan Harrington transfer.

Hi Alan, number 44 is Graham Shaw (Sheffield Wednesday/England) and is shown in blue and white stripes, however, this is an error from the manufacturer. He only every played for Sheffield United. cheers, Paul
ReplyDeleteHi Paul,
DeleteI compiled this list over decades not years and in the early days I wasn't too bothered about being accurate with the way the players names and teams were spelt. I'd love to go through the whole set and make sure everything is correct, word for word. Graham Shaw's colours weren't the only one that they got wrong. John Charles in blue and yellow stripes is another example. I know Leeds played in blue and yellow in the 1950's but I don't think they ever played in striped shirts. An illustrated checklist of this set would be worth seeing.
Cheers,
Alan
Hi Alan, I would date the 1st set of Cadet decals, the sportsmen & sportswomen, to 1957; and the footballers, the 2nd set, as 1958. Murray Rose in the first set, to me, must date the sportsmen to after 1956. Here's why. He won gold at the summer Olympics of 1956 where as a 17-year-old he wowed the world of swimming with a triple. Now, people have told me that means this can be a 1956 transfer. Not so. 100% it is 1957. The OG of '56 were under the Southern Cross. Dates differ. Best wishes as ever. Carl Wilkes. P.S. as for the above comments about John Charles, the confusion is due to his kit being that of Juventus, not Leeds United. No doubt Cadet artists took liberty with the yellow, having taken the image from a B/w photo...
ReplyDeleteHi Carl,
DeleteAlways great to hear from you, I'll amend the date straight away. Your explanation makes perfect sense.
Cheers,
Alan
