1900's

1 card
This card is what is known as a carte-de-visite (visiting card). They were very popular in the United Kingdom from the 1850's to the early 1900's and the popularity spread around the world during that period. This one is 65 x 105mm, which is the usual size for such items. The photo is pasted to a backing card and the reverse usually has details of the photographer and publisher, more often than not the photographer was also the publisher.
The bottom of the reverse alerts the owner to the possibility of acquiring the photo from "miniature up to life size, in oil or water colours."
