Steve Bloomer - England's Greatest International Football Player & Record Cap Holder
Wainwright (late Carter), Derby
1 postcard
A lovely postcard displaying Steve Bloomer's 21 international caps won up to and including 1905. This helps date the postcard as Bloomer continued to play for England for another two years.
The message on the reverse is interesting, A. Hayfield is letting someone know he could play but would be available the following week for the game against Stoke Albions.
I can't find out much about the club but David Danskin, who was behind the formation of Dial Square FC, the team that eventually became known as Arsenal, and played in their first game, a 6-0 win against Eastern Wanderers FC on 11 December 1886. Nine days later, on Christmas Day, they decided to change their name to Royal Arsenal. The rest, as they say, is history.
At some point he became chairman of Stoke Albions F.C. and under his guidance the club won the Midland Daily Telegraph Junior Cup, the Leamington Hospital Cup and the Bedworth Charity Cup.
