About a year ago I add images of cards from Argentina featuring Marvel and DC Comics superheroes and villains in the colours of various football clubs from Argentina (Unknown issuer (Argentina) - Gran Match - Marvel & DC Comics Superheroes & Villains). Since then I found similar cards featuring members of the rock group Kiss (Ace Frehley and Gene Simmons), Fred Flintstone and Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, to name a few, so I decided to do some research. Luckily, they turn up quite often on auction websites like eBay and MercadoLibre.

All the artwork was drawn by Félix Saborido. The collection was first published in 1982 but was re-issued in 1989 and 1996. There are 11 cards in twenty team colours relating to 31 different clubs, plus 2 referees and 2 linesmen. I character in each release was more difficult to find than any others, because it was released in limited quantities. The 1982 release also included 28 cards featuring Formula 1 racing cards and drivers. There was also 28 Moto-Cross characters in that first collection featuring some of the cartoon characters featured on the football cards, but not in club colours. Many of the character are familiar to almost everyone, but some are cartoon characters from comic strips produced in Argentina, thereby being more difficult to identify.
