Two postcards, one printed before the General Election that took place between 12 January, 1906 and 8 February. 1906. The second postcard was issued after the event.
William Kenyon-Slaney scored the first ever international goal when England beat Scotland by 4 goals to 2 in the second ever international match (the first one ended 0-0). He actually scored 2 goals in the game.
He won the second ever F.A. Cup final when playing for Wanderers against his former club Oxford University. He also played in the first drawn game of the 1875 F.A. Cup Final (but missed the replay) and both games of the 1876 Final for Old Etonians.
Kenyon-Slaney was a noted sportsman, as well as his football exploits he also played cricket for the M.C.C. (Marylebone Cricket Club).
He had a long and distinguished military career, serving in the Grenadier Guards from 1867 to 1888. He fought in the Anglo-Egyptian War, receiving the Egypt Medal and the Khedive Bronze Star and he was a Member of Parliament for Newport, Shropshire from 1886 until his death in 1908.
