Only a very tenuous link to football this time. The sport isn't shown, or even mentioned on the card. Clark Our New Thread (Clark O.N.T.) was a football team in the United States. They were established on 15 November, 1883 at a meeting of 150 employees of The Clark Thread Company, located in Newark, New Jersey. This card and the team were part of a marketing campaign introducing a new product - O.N.T. Spool Cotton. They competed in and won the first ever American Cup in the 1884-85 season, an event organised by the American Football Association and won it again in the following two seasons. On 28 November, 1885, five of the team represented the United States in their very first international against Canada, which took place at Clark O.N.T.'s ground.
