Walkers Tobacco Co. - Footballers

1920s
Footballers (33 x 44mm)
Walkers Tobacco Co.

Unknown number

Please excuse the poor picture. These five cards were shown in Football Card Collector Magazine No. 27. As far as I know they are the only cards known from this series. The cards are similar in size to the Pinnace cards that are so familiar these days. Until their inclusion in the magazine they were unknown and unrecorded.
UPDATE (30-11-2024 00:48):  Decent scans of the Andrew Young card added.

Barratt & Co. - Famous Footballers (Transfers)

1949
Famous Footballers (Transfers)
Barratt & Co.

2 sheets, 40 transfers.

I've had an e-mail from Mick Wallace about transfer from the 1940s.
Alan, congratulations on Cardiff City reaching the Premiership, well deserved after the last 3 years of play-off heartbreak.
Recently purchased some football transfer cards and I wondered if you have any info on them. All / have is that they were issued Anonymous, circa 1949.
I went for the Newcastle card of Frank Brennan but also got a Cardiff City one, A.R. Lever, thought you may have it in your collection and may know more detail. Also got a Jackie Milburn Barratt transfer card from 1952. I am a member of the CGSB as well, and will be attending both days of this years convention at Woking.
Regards, Mick

These were issued by Barratt as two sheets of 20 transfers. Above you'll see a complete sheet, plus another illustration showing the front sheet plus part of one of the sticker sheets. They were included in special Christmas stocking presents produced by Barratt & Co., featuring sweets and gifts in a net stocking.
UPDATE (05-03-2016):  In doing research on other sheets of transfers from the 1940's I've found a black and white photocopy of the second sheet, so I thought I'd add it here. The sheets are unnumbered and are numbered here for reference purposes only.
UPDATE (23-22-2019 19:39):  I originally had two sheets listed here one without the title section and this one with a title section. I presumed they were both called 'Famous Footballers'. It turns out that the other sheet is titled 'Stars of Soccer' and I've given that one it's own post and removed all reference to it from this one.

Pal Blades

Unknown number issued

Pal Blades was a razor blade producer. These small postcards contain real autographs usually written in biro. I don't know if they were issued with the autographs already in place, or if they were issued blank and it was left to the autograph hunters to track down players to get them signed. Albums were issued.

Postcard size, might even be postcards. I presume they featured Southampton players as the firm was based in that town and the only card I know of features a Southampton player.

D.C. Thomson / Adventure - Five-a-Side Footer

1926
Five-a-Side Footer cut-outs
D.C. Thomson / Adventure

(4 December 1926)
10 cut-outs

This game was printed in the middle pages of the bumper Christmas issue of Adventure. The editor advised that the pages should be pasted to card before cutting out all the relevant pieces, which included the faces of 10 footballers. I've never seen any of these cut-out 'discs'. so I am including as advert for the game from the previous weeks issue of Adventure.

Ariel Productions - Wembley card game (Green back)

1960s
Wembley card game (Green back) - playing card
Ariel Productions

32 cards

The Wembley board game last almost 40 years from the 1950s through to the 1990s. Originally created by Ariel Productions and later issued by Gibson Games, each version came with 32 club cards. These changed from one version to another as clubs were promoted and relegated, and other clubs came in and went out of favour. For most versions the cards had rounded corners, though one was issued with square corners. Likewise most of the cards had red backs, but there was an orange version and also a green version. Monetary values also increased with time.

A set of cards came with each box, so they in themselves are not really collectable. But one-club collectors usually like to add their clubs cards to their collections. I have most of the Cardiff City variations in my own collection. It is the green version for which I am trying to compile a list of cards, I only know of the following:
