CAD-670 / CAF-27-2 Transfers - All Sports
Cadet Sweets
UK
48 in the set
The image on the left is as the Transfer looks. the one of the right is a mirror image, which is easier to read.
There was a set of Transfers issued by Cadet Sweets that featured Famous Footballers, if anyone needs a checklist for this set please let me know. This collection seems harder to come by though. They are roughly same size as the various card sets issued by Cadet Sweets.

Hi Alan
ReplyDeleteI have the Don McEvoy transfer in this set and although I'm not too sure of the correct date myself, I can certainly say that c1958 is way out! McEvoy came to prominence at Huddersfield in 1952-53 season and then moved to Sheffield Wednesday in December 1954, so I would date this series at 1953 or 1954.
Hi Roger,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment. I often check out your Huddersfield Town Card website (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/roger.pashby/). I've decided to go with the date you have suggested, but at the same time I've also decided to take Don McEvoy out of this checklist as the one on your site is from the 'Footballers' series not the 'All Sports' set. Thanks very much for your input.
Hi Alan,
ReplyDeleteCard No.47 is ZOLTAN BERCZIK, HUNGARY; a Table Tennis Player.
Hi Derek,
DeleteThank you for your help. I have a number of posts relating to this collection, the most recent includes a complete checklist. It can be seen here:

Hi again Alan, as per my earlier note on the 1958 Footballers decals page, I thought I'd also post it here for the series of sportsmen, 1957, so that viewers can see dates, etc Thanks as ever for all you do. Much appreciated, just as you were in the 1990's!
ReplyDelete"Hi Alan, I would date this earlier set of the two Cadet decals, the 'sportsmen', as 1957; and the footballers, the later 2nd-issue set, as 1958. Murray Rose in the first set, at least to me, dates the sportsmen to after 1956. This is why: he won gold at the summer Olympics of 1956 where as a 17-year-old he wowed the world of swimming with a triple d'or. Now, people have told me that my reasoning means this could still be a 1956 transfer. Not so. The Summer OG'56 was southern hemisphere - November & December'56. By the time news came back to Slough (a few years before Slough's 'The Office' Ricky Gervais was born) of results, and by the time Cadet had organised artwork and reprographic works.... it's probably Easter 1957 before a set of cards (decals) like these would have been issued. This explains the gap I used to think existed between sets. I was wrong. It's just a year. 1957 Sportsmen and 1958 footballers. I used to have uncut sheets of the latter! At least a dozen, in the 1990's. Alas, they are long since cut and sold; though a couple of uncut sheets went to various buyers
Hi Carl,
DeleteI'll leave the date as it is for this post, this checklist was a work-in-progress for almost 30 years and back then it was anticipated that the collection came from around 1953 or 1954. I have five posts relating to these All Sports Transfers, showing the progress in compiling the checklist. The fifth and final post has the complete checklist and the correct date of 1957:

Thanks for your help, it's always much appreciated.
Take care and stay safe,
Alan
