John Levitt has provided some information about this set of cards issued by Hunt Cropp & Sons of Norwich. Characters from Dickens is a set of 15 cards issued in 1912 whereby the backs of cards give details of the valuable prizes for Girls and Boys when saving these Picture Cards. One of the prizes is a handsewn Football. The cards are numbered on the front and the backs are all the same.

ReplyDeleteIn order to get one of the three prizes you needed 600 cards which if only issued locally in the Norwich and/or Norfolk area would have taken some doing although the products Hunt Cropp sold were foodstuffs. I suspect that production of the actual cards may have been low.

DeleteIt does seem as if one would have to buy an awful lot of Baking Powder to gather together 600 cards. Much easier to just buy a tennis racket or a leather football.
