Meltem Çikletleri (Turkey) - Milli Ligi Serisi 1966-67

1966-67
Milli Ligi Serisi
Meltem Çikletleri
Turkey
219 ?

Ali Murat Atay has sent in a lot of information about a collection of cards issued in Turkey in 1966-67...
This is a series I collected as a kid. I have sent you some scans, including the Göztepe cards - the players numbered 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9 and 10  played in the game against Cardiff City that you went to, and no. 11 was on the bench the whole game.
I want to point out a few details and irregularities about the Meltem Serie:

  • Cards are numbered 1-219 and the year is 1966-67.
  • Over many years I have come across this serie several times but never found the cards numbered 1-15 and 178-200, but many doubles of the other cards. I don't think they were ever printed.
  • The numbers 201-219 are team cards. These include the national team and the Under-21 team. I think the first cards numbered 1-15 were reserved for the U-21 players but never materialized.
  • The back of the team cards says the serie includes all the players of the 17 teams in the league + national team + U-21 team,  but the collection only includes 13 teams + national team. But all the teams are included in the team cards section - nos. 201-219.
  • Kaleci, solbek etc. - These are positions on the field as printed on the cards, some of them are not used anymore.
  • There are two cards numbered 33 and two no. 93 cards with different players.
  • Every team has 11 numbered cards, except GençlerbirliÄŸi. Another forward (with shirt number 9) is added as the 12th card (unlike 33 and 93 this one has its own serie card number).
  • Card number 177  is a bit unique. This player came back from Italy in 1967 to Fenerbahçe and as he was a very popular player at the time. I think they added this card at the last minute. So in modern terminology maybe its the one and only 'update' card!

I don't have the cards numbered 26, 124, 125, 130, 151, 164, 173, 175, 210 and 215. Of these, I am 99% sure that:

26 is UÄŸur Köken – (Galatasaray)

173 is Metin Oktay – Milli Takım (National Team)
210 and 215 are İstanbulspor and Altınordu team cards but dont know which one is which. as the team cards are not in alphabetical order, unfortunately.

I hope this will be an interesting addition to your website.

See you – Ali M.
