with a well written biography.
UPDATE (09-09-2026 13:08): Dave Horn has left a comment about his Stanley Matthews cards. It seems some portraits are dated 'McNamara 50' and others are dated 'McNamara 51'. He also spotted a variation with the card numbering, with and without a "No. " prefix.

ReplyDeleteHi, I have a Blackpool Team Postcard from the 1951 FA Cup final team issued by Odhams. It has 1951 F A Cup Finalists on the back and the team are also named to the rear.
ReplyDeleteAny idea if this postcard was a one off or were there other "team" postcards issued?
The back says Odhams Press Ltd, Long Acre, London WC2. "Daily Herald" copyright.
According to my records there were just two postcards, the other was the Newcastle United team. Although I've got them listed in my database, I haven't come across images of either of them since I started my blog 12 years ago.

DeleteI recently acquired another Stanley Matthews Odham postcard as it was in slightly better condition then the one I had. Upon receipt I noticed the numbering to the reverse was different. The latest card I obtained has the number shown as "No. 3", wheras the poorer card I already had is numbered just "3". Both Matthews cards have McNamara 50' to the front. My Harry Johnston card is also "No. 20". This has McNamara 51 to the front.
So are there 2 different sets of these cards with the numbers shown as No.3 and just 3?
