W.D. & H.O. Wills
50 cards
Tor Henrik von der Ohe has been in touch about the cards of former Liverpool captain Donald MacKinlay:
I was going through my 1914 W.D. & H.O. Wills Famous Footballers, and noticed that Donald MacKinlay has been called David MacKinley on the back of both the Stars and the Scissors versions of these cards. On the front he is called D. McKinley, but his actual name is Donald MacKinlay. According to Lfchistory.net he writes his sirname as MacKinlay. At the end of this article, https://www.lfchistory.net/Articles/Article/2237, they say the following:
Footnote: (For those of you who have been wondering about our spelling of his name.) His name was always written as McKinlay in the papers for years, but later changed in the papers to the correct one "MacKinlay" from ca. 1922-23. First and foremost he wrote his own name as MacKinlay and that's why LFChistory.net always refers him as MacKinlay.
14. D. McKinley (Liverpool)
