Earlier today I posted this piece with a vague title for these cards, following an e-mail from Mark Avenell who has just added these two cards to his collection. He had no information about them and wondered if I had any idea where they come from. Mark came back to me and said that he's been told they might have been issued by Marks & Spencer. That rang a bell... I checked my database and found them. So here's the complete checklist.

Following on from Bob Thomas' help recently, Paul Briers has been in touch and very kindly sent scans of all the pages featuring the Stars of Today. He also informs me that there are 71 players, not 72, as you'll see in the illustrations. I presumed, wrongly, that as some pages had 12 photos there must be 72 in total! I suppose there is in a way, a Stanley Matthews himself looks through the book...
