Regarding the cards issued with Roy of the Rovers (16 October, 1976), was there a special card issued with them?
I have found the attached card which is plain backed (brown card) which refers to three sample picture cards. The
London Cigarette Card Co. catalogue refers to the "Great New Series" insert but does not mention where it came from. I don't have a copy of the Brooke Bond book they issued in 2006-7 and it is not mentioned in the previous book that was issued covering the first 40 years.
The cover states that as well as receiving the three cards collectors can find out how to get the album. This card certainly fits the bill. What would seal it is if the comic doesn't include any information in it's pages on how to get the album. I think more research is needed.

The cards celebrate the card sets that were distributed in the U.K. with Brooke Bond PG Tips packet tea and tea bags. The backs of the cards include descriptions and history of the sets and identify the availability of albums and double cards. These cards were not available through any Brooke Bond product and have no connection with the company, with the cards sold as a complete set. I've listed them under the Brooke Bond name though because if I didn't they would be impossible to find. There are two different printings, one with blue backs and one with black backs. Update (13-08-2015):  The backs can be found with light blue and dark blue print on the back as well as black. Thanks to John Levitt, see his comment below.
