Tip Top Sales Company (Malta) - European Football Action Series A

25 cards

UPDATE:  I've had this set listed as being issued in 1932 for many, many years. The games are all pre-war and perhaps 1932 was a little early. Paul Briers has been in touch to share some information on this set and the cards were issued much later. I'll let him explain....
I see you've added the Tip Top Malta trade cards to your blog. I was in discussion with a lady, who sold some on eBay a while ago, who lives in Malta and had connections to the man who created these cards. I identified the game on the card as Brentford v Chelsea, Division 1, at Griffin Park, April 17th, 1937.
Therefore the date 1932 as to their publication had to be incorrect.
The lady in question sent me this:
"However these highly collectable Tip Top Sales Company Malta football cards date to the late 1950s when the Tip Top Sales Company Valletta - Malta was set up in Malta by the late Joseph Xuereb.
Born in Valletta in 1931, Mr. Joseph Xuereb emigrated to Canada in 1950. Upon his return to Malta in 1956, Mr. Xuereb opened a small shop in Valletta selling souvenirs and Tip Top was founded that year.
In 1960, he started importing pocket radios and soon after made his first contacts with Japan when he started importing electronics. As the years passed, Tip Top became Malta's leading company in Hi-Fi and Electronics sales, being the sole agents and representatives for Toshiba, Sanyo, Jamo, Sansui and other brands."
So these are trade cards from the late 1950's, probably around 1957 or 1958. Why he chose the pictures he did, I haven't a clue! But the cards are definitely not 1932.
Should help people date the other matches too.

All the best, Paul
