Beamish Tartan Nougat
? cards
I don't know anything about this collection other than the existence of this card. I've dated it to the 1920's because it's Arsenal rather than Woolwich Arsenal. I don't know if the Roman numerals refers to the card number, but that's how I've listed it.
UPDATE (07-02-2026 22:56): I've been supplied some additional information from Paul Briers. Are there three or more different series? Paul states that there is speculation that these might be linked to Maynards, the confectionery firm.
IV. LIVERPOOL
XIII. ARSENAL
No. 6. Liverpool
No. 11. Newcastle U.
NNO. Hibernians

Hi Alan
ReplyDeleteThere’s a Newcastle United card on the Vintage Football Cards group on Facebook. Numbered No.11. There’s also a Hibernians card too. However this is unnumbered and doesn’t show the back. They do say it’s Beamish Tartan though.
All the best
Paul
Me again!
ReplyDeleteThere are two Liverpool cards on the same Facebook group too. Plus blank backed cards as well of Newcastle U. Liverpool card has roman and arabic numerals for No.6 or VI. The belief is, they were cut outs from boxes. Maybe Maynards?
Paul
Hi Paul,
DeleteThanks for all the information. The Maynards link seems interesting.
Cheers,
Alan
