1 card
This card appeared on eBay the other day, listed at a penny short of £1,000. The vendor has been unable to identify where or when it was issued. He has contacted a number of top dealers and auctioneers but none have been able to shed any light on this card.
UPDATE (18-10-2024 23:53): Scans of Steve Bloomer's card from Murray, Sons & Co. Footballers Series H collection, issued in 1912. See comment.
Steve Bloomer
The shirt would suggest it was taken when at Middlesbrough
ReplyDeleteI was thinking that too, because of the dark jersey, but I don't think Middlesbrough had a white band around the neck.
DeleteWasn't this card sold at auction recently? £500+commission! Trying to sell it on because? It looks like a modern reprint. The straight lines down the eye and shirt a giveaway?? I don't think I would've touched it, to be honest. The colour over print/staining on the reverse is an anomaly too. I can't see them selling it on at that price......
ReplyDeleteHi Paul,
DeleteI must admit I have a completely open mind about it. Without actually seeing in in-hand, it's difficult to tell. But I do think it's a little too perfect for something that's supposed to be completely unknown and about 125 years old.
The picture is the same one used of Bloomer (Derby Co) in the Murrays, Sons & Co Footballers, Series H (?)
ReplyDeleteAn exact copy. We do know same pictures were used in different sets.
Still, i’m dubious!!
Good point, I'll add images of Murray's card.
