A little while ago, completed a project to list all the photos of footballers including in D.C. Thomson's Football comic. Recently, I've been asked if I have a list for the similar photos printed in the Commando comic. It was first published in 1961 and is still going strong today, with well over 5,000 issues. This listing concentrates on the period between 1972 and 1989. I haven't been able to find any photos of footballers after 1989. Most of the photos were printed on the inside of the back cover, but quite a few were printed on the inside of the front cover. But always check, as some images have photos on the inside front cover AND the inside back cover. Throughout the run other collections of photos were also published, covering a wide range of sports, including Great Athletes, Kings of Cricket, The British Lions, Stars of Wrestling, Stars of Cricket, Stars of Motor-Cycling, Stars of Speedway, Stars of Formula One, Stars of Rugby, Stars of Boxing, Rally Stars, Stars of Athletics, Stars of Tennis, Stars of Darts, Stars of Golf, Stars of Swimming, Stars of Rugby League, Rugby Union Stars and Formula One Stars. This list of footballers is nowhere near complete, as you can see. I don't know if anyone has attempted to compile a list in the past, but I would be happy to add any additional information.
