  1. This advert confirms that the design of the Premium card for Series 1 comprises Groves, Skirton, McCullough etc (see your entry against series 2). I often find the Arsenal cards listed incorrectly. At the moment this website has the premium cards listed the wrong way around as well. The original source for this error may be the Typhoo Tea Card reference book published by The London Cigarette Card Company which, from memory, lists them incorrectly but I have not been able to check this.

I think one reason for that may be that although George Eastham appears in both cards, in the (correct) 2nd series one he appears as an inset which is often associated with a recent signing. Alternatively Bob Wilson appears in the (correct) 1st series one but not in the 2nd series one and he is a well known face at Arsenal by the 1970s. This can be explained by the fact that the (correct) 2nd series card shows fewer players.

I would also add that as a keen collector of these cards the card featuring 18 players screams Series 1 to me whereas the one with 13 players simply looks like it came from Series 2.

    1. I must admit I'm no expert when it comes to these cards. I used the LCCC booklet for the checklists, but I updated the checklist a couple of years ago, showing the 18 player card as 1963-64 and the 13 player card as 1965-66, even though some of the Arsenal players are wearing kit from the 1960-61 season. Perhaps they used old kit during training sessions.
