500+ cards
A special card, sponsored by hmv, honouring the legend that is Steven Gerrard. I believe it was given out to guests at the Legends of Football gala on 2 October, 2017. Thanks to Phil at FootballCardsDirect for informing me about this card.
What is
Legends of Football?
Legends of Football has raised more than £7 million for music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins. In it’s former glory, known as The HMV Football Extravaganza, this remarkable event enjoyed 20 years celebrating the achievements and careers of some of the greatest footballers and managers in the beautiful game. Legends such as John Charles, Sir Stanley Matthews, Brian Clough, Sir Bobby Robson, Sir Sir Alex Ferguson, Kenny Dalglish, Alan Shearer and Eric Cantona, to name but a few, have received this prestigious award. In the past few years, we’ve been honoured to present the award to Pelé – widely regarded as the greatest player of all time – and to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the event, we saw David Beckham join our Legends league. In 2016, we celebrated 25 seasons of the Premier League, and honoured a special group of players who hold the accolade of scoring a century of Premier League goals.
In 2017, the most prestigious charity event in the football calendar celebrated the achievements of Liverpool and England hero Steven Gerrard. Widely regarded as one of the finest footballers that England has ever produced, not just as a player, but as a leader and captain of his club and country, Steven Gerrard embodies the best of English football. This legend is a rarity in this modern age, a hometown boy who signed for the club he loved as a teenager and stayed there for the entirety of his top flight career despite the lure of big money contracts elsewhere.
Legends of Football 2017 celebrated this amazing footballing journey from the youth team, his early years in the Premier League to leading England and Captaining Liverpool to victory in the Miracle in Istanbul and much more.
NNO. Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) #/1200
