Amalgamated Press / The Champion - AMA-305-1/AMC-16-1A Sporting Champions

1922-23
AMA-305-1/AMC-16-1A Sporting Champions
Amalgamated Press / The Champion
66

Sometimes listed as a set of 66 cards, the Sporting Champions is actually a set of 62 cards. The last four are included here because of this error, but are from a new series of just four cards called Famous British Record Breakers. Another reason for including these four cards is that Howard Baker, although listed as an athlete (he competed at the 1912 and 1920 Olympic Games) he was also a footballer, appearing with a number of teams, most notably Chelsea and Everton, and was an England international. Card no. 59 is of a boxer that was issued in a sub-set called Famous Footballers and is listed seperatly here. A few of the cards feature two sports personalities.

  2. Hi Alan,
The back of my English No.2 card states "Next Week - The first of your Football Favourites" and does not name J Rutherford.
    Regards,

  3. Alex Troup never played for Chelsea, should be Everton at this time.
