Football cards and stickers issued around the world, from the 1880's to the present day and even some that haven't been issued yet. I don't have any cards for sale, nor do I provide valuations, this blog is just a means of passing on information I have gathered over many decades of collecting. Alan Jenkins.

Anglo-American Chewing Gum - ANG-140/ANE-14-1/2 Famous Soccer Clubs ~ Series 1/2
1960
ANG-140/ANE-14-1 Famous Soccer Clubs ~ Series 1 ~ Nos 1-72
ANG-140/ANE-14-2 Famous Soccer Clubs ~ Series 2 ~ Nos 73-130
Anglo-American Chewing Gum
72 each
Produced on wax paper, they usually come with folds as they were wrapped around oblong pieces of gum. If you find any uncreased they probably come from proof versions. The company produced albums too, in return for collecting and redeeming the wax wrappers. All the designs were pre-printed in the album. Some of these have been cut up and sold as double-sided paper items.
There were two series and two albums, but only a total of 112 wrappers were ever issued. Nos. 113 to 130 were never issued.
The second album also included the International Football Teams wrappers which I'll checklist next.
UPDATE (16-06-2019 12:34): MrMikie has provided information on variations of the Chester wrapper and examples can be seen here - Anglo-American Chewing Gum - (ANG-140/ANE-14-1/2) Famous Soccer Clubs - Series 1/2 (03).

For info - Variety - You can get #89 Chester with 1) Blue & White striped shirt.
ReplyDelete2) All blue shirt.
Hi MrMikie,
DeleteI was unaware of this variation. I've got scans of both and will show them on my blog later today. Thanks for your help.
Alan
No.79 Crewe Alexandra
ReplyDeleteThey all appear to be marked Series of 72 for some reason
ReplyDeleteI suppose they are correct, each was a Series of 72. At least kids would have known when the first series came out there were 72 to collect, and the same when the second series was issued.
DeleteHello Alan
ReplyDeleteI have a lot of Anglo Bell boy series in my collection and for exchange.
If you’re interested in, please write me Invictus1897@gmail.com
Were the wrappers for each club produced in equal numbers, or were some wrappers deliberately made scarcer than others?
ReplyDeleteI have no idea but I would presume so, there were no prizes for collecting them, so there wouldn't be any reason to produce some in lesser quantities than others. Some are more collectable, which would lead to scarcity for some subjects.
