J. Baines was not the first to sell football and cricket cards in the North of England in the late 1880's but he was the most prolific and the business survived into the 1920's. I've always been interested in the various issuers and the businesses that took advantage of craze of collecting football and cricket cards. I thought I would delve into my database and shows some of these interesting cards from a bygone age.

The Album of Worlds Champions was available in exchange for coupons, which were also inserted in the cigarette packets, an example of one is shown here. An illustrated checklist of the cards that are in the same format as previous series, with colour photos of international players inside an oval with their name and country in a box at the bottom and career details on the reverse. This is the 7th in the series but the backs are mistakenly titled "A 6th set of 10 card set" - this is where an illustrated checklist comes in handy. The cards measure 68 x 36mm. The cards are available on the London Cigarette Card Company website.

This series has been ongoing for a few weeks now as web-exclusive cards. Erling Haaland is the first footballer to be included and is available to buy until 10 March, 2023. Base cards are priced at $7.99 each.

UPDATE (12-03-2023 12:00):  Following the announcement online of the print run for the original Erling Haaland card, Leaf has now added an autographed version of the re-imagined card. It is priced at $549.99 and will be available on their website until 23 March, 2023. The print run will included on the card.
