Unknown issuer - Brighton & Hove Football Ground (Postcard)

An interesting postcard showing a match in progress at Brighton & Have Albion's ground. I don't think there were any 'football specials' in those days. A few cars are parked in the foreground, and a few more motorbikes to the right of them. But look at all the bicycles under cover behind them! This seems to be another postcard where 'X' seems to mark the spot, although the message is written in French, the author attended a game, possibly the one shown.

The 1d stamp that was used dates from 1912 onwards as it is the image of King George V who took the throne on May 6th 1910. My Stanley Gibbons Stamp Book 2000 edition shows the stamp image on page 9 under the date availability 1912-24 with its image on the previous page.

  2. Thanks for your help John. More research seems to suggest the South Stand was erected in 1910, though I have seen it listed as being built in 1908, which is the date I went for.

All we can say is that the stamp and postmark only date when the card was mailed as the postcard will have been produced at any time before then. The contents of the photo image will be more accurate when dating the actual postcard.
