A few years ago Paul Chauveau provided photos of an issue of Comic Life from 1910 with a football feature on the cover - "Comic Life" Second Football Series. Obviously this indicates that there must be a first series. A couple of weeks ago the comic shown above sold on eBay and it confirms a first series. Going by the number it's safe to conclude that the first series covered 1909-10 season, while the second series dealt with 1910-11.

The Manchester United illustration comes from the first ever full-colour cover of Comic Life, dated 25 September, 1909 and includes the first in the 'Football Series'.
