Bill Edgar has written an article on players who spent a lot of time at successful teams playing in the second tier of football but never made it to the top division - The greatest players who never made it to English top flight appears in today's The Game, the football supplement available in today's The Times newspaper. Thanks to my wife Paula, for alerting me to this article. I probably would have missed it.
The players are shown as football stickers, designed similar to Panini's Football 84 collection and the only reason I'm adding this to my blog today.
The players are (moving through the illustration, from left to right):
Ross McCormack (Leeds United)
Tony Ford (Grimsby Town)
Wilf Kirkham (Port Vale)
Don Goodman (West Bromwich Albion)
Geoff Bradford (Bristol Rovers)
Simon Garner (Blackburn Rovers)
Dean Lewington (Milton Keynes Dons)
Wayne Allison (Bristol City)
Bill Ellerington (Southampton)
Dele Adebola (Birmingham City)
