A lot of factories in the Coventry area had their own women's football teams during the First World War and many wanted to continue playing football after the hostilities were over. This resulted in Coventry Ladies Football Club being formed during April/May 1921. Their first game was against Dick Kerr at Derby County's Baseball Ground on 31 August, 1921. They lost 3-1 in front of 9,000 spectators.
