At the beginning of the year Leaf announced that anyone completing the set of Metal Continuum cards issued throughout 2023 would be rewarded with a special bonus. That bonus card has now been revealed.

That's a nice card and would be epic if it were not a sticker autograph card, knowing that all Leaf does is consign athletes to autograph a quantity of sticker sheets then create whatever "signed" card they want to at any time present or future, limited to 1 or more. On-Card (like what Topps Now does online) is more prestigious than a sticker. I wonder if anyone would ever buy a baseball bat with a authentic signature sticker on it and consider that a true "signed bat"? So, a lot of collectors sort of feel the same way towards cards as far as preferring on-card versus sticker. I wonder how many customers bought every Continuum card, as some were high priced other were lackluster releases. I'm guessing maybe 5 or less. I bought into a few Leaf releases with sub-10 print runs in the past, so 'tho their cards are pretty nice by design, it feels the unlicensed nature makes them less desirable and collected.
ReplyDeleteI can't disagree with anything you say. I notice now that Leaf have started not to use images of some players like Kylian Mbappe, they kust show a numbered football jersey to represent the player. I am amazed that any of those types of cards ever sell. There's loads on eBay but no idea if they actually sell.
