L.S. Lowry created a number of paintings showing football scenes but this is the only postcard I am aware of. The original title of this work was Football Ground, showing fans converging on Bolton Wanderers's old football ground at Burnden Park; painted for a competition run by the Football Association. It was bought by the Professional Footballers' Association for a record £1.9 million in 1999.
